Seeking Teaching Artists for Theatrical Shabbat Experiences for Kids and Families!

Searching for Adventurers! K’ilu Company Teaching Artist Ensemble 2024/2025

We’re going on an Ark Adventure, come on and climb aboard! The K’ilu Company seeks teaching artists for our 2024-2025 Ark Adventures ensemble. Ark Adventures is an immersive theatrical Shabbat program designed for 0-4 year olds and their grownups that currently runs monthly in-residence at Congregation Beth Shalom in Northbrook, IL.

We are seeking a diverse group of teaching artists for this audition/workshop. Artists of all races, ethnicities, gender expressions, abilities, and ages (18+) are encouraged to submit. Our team believes in the importance of authentic storytelling. Because the Ark Adventures experience takes place in a Jewish communal setting and features cultural content, we strongly encourage Jewish artists to apply. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Seeking Teaching Artists who enjoy: working with early childhood and families; interactive storytelling; puppetry; singing as part of an ensemble. 

  • In addition to searching for general performer Teaching Artists, we are interested in artists who play the guitar to fill our Musical Teaching Artist role. Guitar-Playing Teaching Artists encouraged to apply as well!

Searching for Adventurers Group Audition & Workshop for 2024/2025 Season:

Participants in Searching for Adventurers will audition to join the ensemble while participating alongside Ark Adventure ensemble members for a hands-on workshop that offers a window into our creative process. Together, we will explore form and Jewish content using a variety of theatrical disciplines. We are a highly collaborative ensemble and seek performers who reflect a wide range of skills and experience. Searching for Adventurers is an opportunity for you to learn more about our process while we get to know you as an artist.

Searching for Adventurers Date: 

  • Thursday, August 8, 2024 1:30pm-3pm or 

  • Friday, August 9, 2024, 12:00pm-2pm 

(*Participation is invitation only. Invited Applicants will be offered one of these two dates to attend).

Additional Information:

  • Ark Adventures Teaching Artist Ensemble rate - $80/performance and $20/hr for rehearsals.

  • Teaching Artists are scheduled for program dates based on availability.  

  • All performances and rehearsals will take place in Northbrook, IL. Teaching artists are responsible for their own transportation.

  • Hired teaching artists will be required to participate in paid training, to be scheduled based on artist availability.

Program Schedule:

Fridays at 10AM Saturdays at 11AM (Call time is 1 hour before the start of the program / Program runs 1 hour)

  • September 27 and 28, 2024

  • November 1 and 2, 2024

  • December 6 and 7, 2024

  • January 10 and 11, 2025

  • February 7 and 8, 2025

  • March 7 and 8, 2025

  • April 4 and 5, 2025

  • May 9 and 10, 2025

Submissions:​ 

Interested​ ​artists​ ​and educators should​ ​submit:

● A headshot and performance resume (optional: include teaching resume)

● A brief response to the following questions:

○ How did you hear about The K’ilu Company and Ark Adventures? What makes you excited about the possibility of working on this program?

○ What is your experience and/or interest in:

  • working collaboratively in an ensemble?

  • performing in Theatre for the very young?

  • facilitating early childhood Jewish education?

  • singing and/or playing an instrument?

● Availability for the Searching for Adventurers workshop dates (either August 8 or 9 – need only be available for one).

● General availability for the 2024-2025 Ark Adventure season based on program dates above.
